    The PWD (Buildings) has floated tenders inviting bids to construct two government buildings at an estimated cost of Rs 819 lakh.

    According to the PWD officials, the construction of a Permanent Camp site and training area for the National Cadet Corps at Madhuranthagam Taluk in Kancheepuram will be built at an estimated cost of Rs 464.10 lakh.


    As part of the institutional training, NCC regularly conducts annual training programme aimingto foster leadership qualities, self-confidence, self-reliance and dignity of labour in the cadets. “The permanent camp aims to accommodate approximately 400 - 600 cadets with Instructional staff and 15-20 Associate NCC Officers (ANOs). More than 8 lakh cadets attend these camps each year,” said an official attached to the PWD. NCC conducts over 1, 450 camps annually at an average frequencyof more than 100 camps in a month. It is mandatory for cadets to attend one or two camps depending upon their seniority during the period of their enrolment.


    Another project that would be undertaken is the construction of an Annexe building for the Office of the Inspector General of Registration, at Santhome. It will be built at an estimated cost of Rs 355 lakh.


    “We were waiting for theGovernment Order to commence the works related with the project. It would take another three months to finalise the tender and commence the work thereon. Each project will be completed within eight months from the date of commencement,” said a top official.
