A Corporation official said that the proposal for building the ROB was first mooted in 2003 to connect Kolathur Main Road and Integral Coach Factory (ICF) Road. However, the work was delayed due to issues in acquiring land owned by ICF.

“Now, we have finalised the agreement with ICF to acquire the 1,222 sqm land by paying Rs 10 crore as the lease amount for 35 years. We will also pay Rs 1,000 per annum as rent to the ICF,” the official said.

According to the tender document, the ROB is to be built for Rs 21.30 crore. The bids will be opened during the first week of February, and the bidder who gets the project will be entailed to complete the construction work within 540 days.

The Corporation will also pay Rs 60.43 lakh to the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board for shifting water and sewer pipes in the area and Rs 55 lakh to TANGEDCO for shifting of cables and LT equipment in the area.

The railway gate in the crossing is closed every 15 minutes and witnesses more than 10 lakh Train Vehicle Units and an annual average of 19,000 passenger car units, the official said.

Bids invited for T Nagar skywalk

The civic body had also floated a tender recently to build an escalator-equipped skywalk (or footover bridge) in T Nagar at a cost of Rs 28.50 crore. The 600-metre-long and 4-metre-broad skywalk will be built as a part of the Smart City mission and will connect the Mambalam railway station to the T Nagar bus stand via Railway Border Road and Madley Road.
