“The applications should reach the corporation on or before January 21. The government will provide a subsidy of 50 per cent (up to Rs 25,000) under the scheme,” Chennai Corporation Commissioner D Karthikeyan said.

Though the subsidy was initially fixed at Rs 25,000 for all the beneficiaries, it was later hiked by 25 per cent for differently-abled women.

Working women with disabilities would now get a subsidy of 50 per cent (upto Rs 31,250).

Working women aged between 18 and 40 years having driving licences can apply for the scheme after buying two-wheelers (below 125 CC) with their own funds or loans.

The vehicle should have been manufactured after January 1, 2018.

“The annual income of the applicant should not exceed Rs 2.50 lakh. New applications should be submitted at the concerned zonal offices,” Karthikeyan said.

The civic body had released subsidy to 9,138 working women in 2017-2018.

The scheme was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of the 70th birth anniversary of the late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.
