While the former is a master in the kitchen, the other is an expert in art and photography. Dr Chef Vinoth Kumar’s attempt will be to make the world’s longest dosa measuring 100 feet on January 11. The other attempt is by L Ramachandran along with five other artists, to paint 700-plus faces within four hours.

    Battle of the batter

In this unique mission, for the first time, 50 chefs from a popular hotel chain would be coming together to prepare the 100-foot-long dosa along with Chef Vinoth, who already holds five world records in the culinary field. “Tamil Nadu is famous for the belief that serving food to others is service to humanity. All the hotels in the city have been serving dosa for many generations and this is the best way to give back to people,” said Vinoth.

A 105-foot-long dosa pan was made for this event in coordination with the engineering team of the hotel chain. Currently, Hotel Daspalla in Hyderabad holds the record for the longest dosa to be made in the world, measuring 16.68m (approximately 54 feet). The feat was performed in 2014.

Ramachandran said that his Guinness Record attempt is dedicated to world peace. “The first such record was set was in London, where 680 people’s faces were painted, inspired by colours from every single nation’s flag. No one’s beaten that record in eight years, because of which I wanted to be the first one from India to attempt it,” he said.

Over 700 students will be assembling at a school in Kolathur for the event and they’re all above the age of 13. “I have chosen the paints with care and they’re water based so that they don’t affect the kids’ skin. As for the theme, it’ll be abstract with anything from Tamil letters, geometric symbols, flags of different countries and more being painted,” he added.

Artists Azhagesan, Anand, Vijayaraj, Rosario and he have been undergoing training for the past 10 days. He explained, “Each artist has to complete painting the face of one child in a minute, for which we have been using a mannequin to practice. We’ve been doing some physical exercises as well to ensure our hand movement will be free.”
