Two men in a car, who rammed a garbage truck under the influence of alcohol and drove away the truck were arrested in the city.
Chennai
The incident took place on Saturday night when the truck driver Padmanaban and his helper Ezhumalai were collecting garbage on Arya Gowda Road. Gowtham (42) and Bharath (36) of Porur, employees of a travel agency on OMR, were driving a car under the influence of alcohol. They hit a stationary garbage truck, belonging to an agency. Later, they got into an argument with Padmanaban and demanded Rs 5,000 for the repairing the car claiming that the accident took place because he had parked the truck on the road.Â
While Padmanaban said he doesn’t have money, one of them drove away the truck, while the other drove the car. They asked Padmanaban to come to the police station to get back his vehicle. When Padmanaban reached Ashok Nagar police station, he realised that the duo did not come there. Based on his complaint, the Ashok Nagar police registered a case and searched for the truck. Based on the CCTV footage, police found out that the duo drove the truck to their house in Porur.Â
The vehicle was seized on Monday and the duo was arrested under section 379 (theft) of the IPC. The accused persons wanted to fleece Padmanaban’s employer and drove away the vehicle, he said.Â
