    Train engine damaged as students pelt stones

    A group of unidentified school students pelted stones at the engine of the Chendur Express train on Friday near Tambaram Sanatorium station. The Railways officials had to replace the engine compartment as glass panels had cracked due to the incident.

    The Egmore-Tiruchendur Express departed from Egmore at 4.15 pm. Around 4.45 pm, some school students began throwing stones at the engine compartment near Tambaram Sanatorium. Soon, the loco pilot stopped the train. The commuters, who were at the Sanatorium station, tried to catch the students but they managed to escape. The Tambaram railway officials along with the RPF and Railway police visited the spot. As the glass panels was cracked, another engine from Tambaram railway station was brought and attached to the express. The train was then operated to Tambaram station where the damaged engine was removed and taken to the shed. The train departed from Tambaram around 5.40 pm. The police have launched a hunt for the boys.
