    A Class 11 boy, who reportedly scored less marks in his school examinations, committed suicide on Wednesday after his parents took away his mobile phone.

    The deceased was identified as P Raj Kumar is a resident of Garden Woodcraft Nagar in Old Pallavaram. His father Palanivel is an accountant. Raj Kumar was studying in a private school in Keezhkatalai.


    Police said that Raj Kumar’s teachers had called his parents and warned them watch their son’s performance. They also said they may not promote him to Class 12. Following this, Raj Kumar’s parents advised the boy to focus on his academics. 


    On Wednesday, the school reopened after December break and the half yearly examination results were announced. According to police, Raj Kumar failed in several subjects and his parents were upset over the results. Later, they took away his mobile phone stating that the phone was the main reason for his poor performance. They also said Raj Kumar cannot use phone until he finished schooling. 


    Following this incident, Raj Kumar locked himself in his room and later at night, when his parents knocked on the door to call him for dinner, there was no response from him. They broke-open the door and found Raj Kumar dead. The boy had reportedly hanged himself.


    The Pallavaram police visited the spot and sent the body for a post-mortem examination to Chromepet Government Hospital. The police officials registered a case.


    A 21-year-old youth was electrocuted while he was repairing a lift at a newly constructed apartment in Tambaram on Thursday. The deceased was identified as Ranjith Kumar, a resident of Semenchery, who was an electrician. On Thursday afternoon, Ranjith Kumar was fixing the lift at the apartment building which was under construction on Jeeva Street near Kadaperi in Tambaram.

    While Ranjith Kumar was giving power supply, he was electrocuted. The other workers rushed him to a nearby private hospital where the doctor declared him dead on arrival. On information, the Tambaram police visited the spot and sent the body for a post-mortem examination to Chromepet Government Hospital. Police also registered a case under section 174 and further investigations were on.
