‘Don’t drink and drive on NYE or no NOC’
If you have plans to apply for passport or visa or any job which will require police verification, better avoid driving under the influence of alcohol on New Year’s eve and beyond. Chances are high that you might be denied the NOC for drunk driving.

“Those caught for drunken driving will not lose their licences. Besides their names will be recorded in the State Crime Records Bureau and it will be difficult for them to get NOC for personal, passport and VISA verification. Their vehicles will also be impounded,” a senior police officer said. The warning from the police came in a press release issued on Sunday. Last year Chennai traffic police had issued a warning against those caught for drag racing.
ECR and OMR under strict police vigil
The Chennai police have made elaborate security arrangements to ensure accident and crime free New Year’s eve celebrations. The police said that 15,000 personnel will be on duty, patrolling will be intensified from 9 pm on Monday and vehicle checks will be conducted in 368 places across the city including Mylapore, Kilpauk, Triplicane, T Nagar, Adyar and St Thomas Mount. A total of 25 teams will go around in bikes and create road safety awareness and another 20 teams have been deployed to check bike race, particularly on East Coast Road and Old Mahabalipuram Road aka IT highway aka Rajiv Gandhi Salai.
In order to prevent crime on Marina beach, Santhome, Elliots beach and Neelankarai, all terrain vehicles and mounted police have been deployed. Mobile surveillance teams with public announcement system and flickering lights will be deployed in places where public gathers in large numbers.
