Delivering the judgment in the Kodungaiyur explosives haul case, judge P Senthoorpandi held that seven of the nine accused, including the prime conspirator Mohammed Khan alias Sirajudeen, were guilty.Â
The other convicts are Shahul Hameed, Raja Hussain alias Babu, Zakir Hussain alias Ismail, Abdul Aziz alias Aziz, Khaja Nizamuddin and Syed Ibrahim. Two others –Nazruddin and Mohammed Kamil – were acquitted.
Though the seven have already served the jail term awarded by the court, they will continue to be in prison in connection with other cases.
The prime accused Mohammed Khan is the younger brother of al-Umma founder Syed Ahmed Basha, the key accused in the sensational Coimbatore serial bomb blast cases. Khan was also allegedly associated with the banned terror outfit that his brother found.
After the huge haul of explosives, including crude bombs, from a house in Kodungaiyur in 1997, the case was taken up by the special investigation division of CB-CID for further investigation in 1999.Â
