A festival to ring in New Year with music, the sand and the sea

The city has, of late, been witness to a handful of unique beach and music festivals — the next one to make its debut this year is the Catamaran Beach Festival. It features multi-genre line-up of 18 performing artistes ensuring audiences can listen to a bit of everything from rock, to Carnatic alternative, spoken word hip hop, electronic and dance music and more.

“Immerse yourself in a perfect celebration of music, roots, inclusiveness, diversity and environmental consciousness at the festival,” says Roy Dipanker, its programming head-marketing director. “It aims to bring together a melee of art, food, music and people at an exotic surrounding, which is Chinna Veerampattinam Beach at Puducherry. The performing arena or the mainstage is a beach-facing megalithic structure that accentuates the region’s Franco-Tamil aesthetic of Pondicherry,” he adds.

Some of the artistes who will be performing at the two-day festival (December 30 and 31) include MC Kaur, Ezzyland and Uddhav among others on Day 1 while those like Elevated Pride, Pulpy Shilpy, The Iyer Project, Unnayana, etc. will take the stage on Day 2.

Roy further explains, “The festival believes in harbouring goodwill and generating revenue opportunities for the community of fisherfolk residing nearby. Doubling up as life guards, they will be involved with catamaran rides, preparing seafood delicacies and providing homestays with tent spaces — thus creating a healthy fiscal eco-system in a humane order.” Tickets for the event are available on e-commerce websites Insider and Whistlepodu.
