Police fix 1 am deadline for New Year bash at hotels
A week ahead of the dawn of the New Year, city police Additional Commissioner (South) Mahesh Kumar Agarwal held a meeting with representatives of star hotels at the Commissionerate on Wednesday to discuss the rules to be followed for a safer celebration.

At least 50 hoteliers were part of the discussion, during which Joint Commissioner C Mageshwari, Deputy Commissioners Sashank Sai, M S Muthusamy and P Aravindan also participated as per the directions of Commissioner A K Viswanathan.
Among the guidelines, there is a strict instruction to close bars at 1 am. Hotel representatives have also been asked to fix CCTV facility at areas where the parties, events and other revelries take place.
Guests should be allowed only after a thorough security check as a precaution and the hotels can seek for assistance of women police personnel at events where women are expected to attend in large numbers.
The hotels have been asked to close swimming pools; if it cannot be closed, the management should deploy security guards to keep visitors away. The party venues are not supposed to be held near pools and organisers have been asked not to build stages over the pool.
