The car, a white high-end Honda variant, was spotted on Old Mahabalipuram Road with a sticker on the rear number plate with the words ‘SICK**NT’. A concerned citizen who was driving with his family was shocked by the blatant disregard for rules and alerted the traffic police with a photograph of the plate.

The incident was reported on the night of December 18 and a traffic police team swung into action and managed to trace the vehicle from the front number plate with the help of CCTV footage from the Perungudi toll plaza.

However, even after getting the address of the owner from the RTO, the police have not managed to nab the person responsible for the act. “The car is registered to an address in Ambattur. Our officer visited the address at least three times, but he has not been able to locate the car. Even today, our officers went to the address given by the RTO, but neither the car nor the owner was there. As per RTO records, the vehicle is listed as a Honda Jazz. But from the picture, it’s clear that it is an older variant of another high-end Honda model. There seems to be some data entry error,” a traffic police officer said.

The police officer added that such stickers on the number plates can never be allowed. “There are people who stick images alongside the number. That itself is a violation. This car does not even have a registration number, and instead has obscene slang words.
