The victim, Banumathi, lived with her husband Thirumuruganathan and their two daughters, Chamundeswari (21) and Devipriya (19). The police said that the accused Devipriya was pursuing B Com in a private college at Pattabiram.

“The girl was in relationship with a man from Mysuru, with whom she came in contact through Facebook. After they became close, Devipriya decided to leave her home to stay with her lover, whose identity is yet to be confirmed. After the girl informed him that her family would be away on Monday, the lover sent two of his friends – Suresh and Satish – to bring her to Mysuru, the police said.

When the two reached her home at a time when her father and sister had gone out, the girl tried to leave home with them. “Banumathi tried to stop her from leaving the place. This led to a scuffle and in the melee, Devipriya and the two men stabbed her mother and tried to escape,” the police said.

However, Banumathi’s screams alerted her neighbours, who rushed to their home and caught the two men with blood stains. Subsequently, they were handed over to the local police station for further inquiry.

Meanwhile, Banumathi was rushed to a local hospital from where she was referred to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH) in Chennai.

The police said that Banumathi succumbed to the injuries late on Monday following which they have registered a murder case. They are also investigating if all three of them were involved in stabbing the woman.
