The four-and-half-year-old boy, Krishdev, a UKG student of a private school in the locality, is the first child of Rajubabu (30), a medical representative, and Sowmya, a homemaker. The family resides in NN Garden in Washermanpet. The suspect, R Saikiran (27), also a medical representative, is Sowmya’s brother.

Along with his parents, Saikiran reached the city from Nellore four days ago, police said. Around 9.30 pm on Sunday, Saikiran took Krishdev out on his two-wheeler. He told the family that he was taking the boy to a bakery nearby to buy snacks. But the uncle and nephew did not return for long time after the shops shut down.

After midnight, Rajubabu tried to reach Saikiran over phone, but it remained switched off. After their search for Saikiran and child proved futile, Rajubabu lodged a complaint at the Old Washermanpet police station on Monday morning.

A case was registered, and police launched a hunt for Saikiran with the two-wheeler’s registration number. After preliminary inquiry, police said Saikiran had asked money from Sowmya, which she allegedly refused.

He is suspected to have kidnapped the boy to threaten her sister, police said.

When contacted, an officer said that they zeroed in on the location where Krishnadev was hidden using the registration number of the vehicle. A police team rescued him and arrested Saikiran on Monday.

Rajubabu-Sowmya couple has a younger daughter as well.
