Cops parade suspect against Idol Wing chief
In a scene seldom seen before, an Idol Wing ADSP, who has seemingly been leading the mutiny against special officer Pon Manickavel, paraded a suspect before the media on Monday to allege that the officer has been foisting cases against the suspects in custody for idol theft and smuggling. In addition, 23 personnel from the wing, too, met the DGP during the day with the same complaint.

ADSP Elango, who has by now led three batches of disgruntled Idol Wing officers, went a step ahead on Monday by parading Sakthivel, a suspect, in front of the media.
Elango claimed that the case against Sakthivel was foisted as per instruction from Pon Manickavel. “Those ‘suspects’ were lured by Pon Manickavel through an agent, telling them that they would get up to Rs 50 lakh if they were ready to sell idols kept in their houses,” Elango alleged.
Accompanying Sakthivel was Deenadayalan, who claimed that idols he had bought for Rs 7,000- Rs 8,000 were used for this. The ADSP added that these two suspects had sought CBI inquiry into the matter.
However, after charging that the case was foisted on him, Sakthivel grew visibly uncomfortable when asked if he would repeat the allegation in court. At one point, Elango shoved aside Sakthivel, who seemed to deviate from what he was supposed to say, and started answering the questions from the media. Elango also refused to answer when asked about the number of cases he had probed as an investigating officer in Idol Wing.
This is the third batch, all headed by Elango, to meet the DGP. Before this, 24 police personnel had met the State police chief in two batches.
