A seminar to educate students and rasikas all aspects of arts

Kalakshetra Foundation will be organising a first of its kind seminar that will give audiences and students an insight into the various sessions on music, dance, and textile and art appreciation. Titled Kala Samprekshana: The Art of Seeing Art, the seminar is an extension of the foundations’ 65th annual art festival.

It will be held on December 24 and 25 from 9.15 am to 4 pm. Talking about the idea and vision of Kala Samprekshana, the director of Kalakshetra Foundation, Revathy Ramachandran, said, “We are organising this two-day intensive seminar with an intent to educate and enrich student of the arts — both performing and visual — on all aspects that are integral to the creation, nurturing and development of the arts. The seminar features a slew of sessions across subjects that will interest and enrich both a student and an aspirant of arts as well as a rasika. The sessions will be conducted across beautiful spaces within the Kalakshetra campus – the banyan tree and the Craft Centre — by a host of hand-picked academicians, scholars, artistes and educators.”

Kala Samprekshana literally translates into the ‘art of seeing art’. “It is a first-of-its-kind elaborate attempt to urge students and rasikas to dig deeper, around and within, to engage with the many tangible and intangible aspects that are a part of the world of the arts. The sessions range from ideas associated with music, dance, visual art, textiles, sculpture and crafts, all aspects that are crucial to what constitutes the fabric of the Kalakshetra, as envisioned by its founder, Rukmini Devi Arundale. Everything about the institution is holistic and this seminar is an effort in that direction,” added the director.

A few of the sessions include Durgalakshmi Venkataswamy’s talk on the revival of Kodalikarupur saree, ongoing work at Kalakshetra, Dr Annapurna Mamidipudi’s introduction to ‘Reconstructing RukminiDevi Fabric Fascination and Dr Chitra Madhavan’s session on understanding and appreciating sculpture.
