Two policemen engage in fight, suspended

One policeman allegedly attacked the other with a sharp weapon and the injured policeman has been admitted to a private hospital. A departmental inquiry has also been ordered into the issue.

Police said Maraimalaiyan, a head constable at the Mamallapuram police DSP office, on Saturday went to the coastal security group check post on East Coast Road (ECR) to take the police patrol vehicle, which was objected by Mamallapuram police Grade-I constable Boopalan.

Boopalan and Maraimalaiyan picked up a quarrel which turned into physical fight and Maraimalaiyan attacked using a small pen knife. Maraimalaiyan left the place leaving the wounded colleague behind. Based on an alert from resident, a police team took injured Boopalan to a private hospital in Nellikuppam. The incident was referred to the district police head office and the SP Santhosh Hadimani placed them under suspension.
