Chennaiites unite to learn, be inspired by travellers

From backpacking across Europe and witnessing the Northern Lights spectacle in Norway to curated family trips or honeymoons, Chennai-based experiential travel company Wandermile has been a hit since they launched two-and-a-half years ago. They have been a boon for not just travel enthusiasts in the city, but also those looking for an out-of-the-box experience.

Now, they are stepping up their love for wanderlust with an initiative titled The Indian Travel Collective, to bring together the travel community in the city, to share inspiration and stories. A unique set of speakers is lined up for the event, who will talk about their journey in the field of travel.

“We started this project last year, and it was a really interactive networking session with various travellers from Chennai as well as other cities in India taking part. The topics our speakers will explore in this edition are varied: for instance, we have someone from Hyderabad who will shed light on exploring Mount Everest. There is a woman traveller who will speak about the concept of solo luxury travel – how budgets can be increased and women travelling solo don’t need to stay in shady places all the time! Food travel (to explore the traditional cuisine native to a region) will also be discussed,” explains Rakesh Rajan, one of the founding partners at Wandermile.

Rakesh adds that the idea is to inspire more people to travel, to collaborate and to learn from other travellers. “Since our inception, Wandermile has sought to be different; we are not like a tour operator. The idea is to give the whole wanderlust experience with our curated trips, where people from different walks of life meet to enjoy the journey together. There will be more Indian Travel Collective events planned in the near future,” he concludes.
