“The documentary shows the herculean task performed by the Tangedco workers. Their work has been appreciated by people cutting across sections. The Electricity Department has come out with the documentary to honour them,” said a Tangedco official, requesting anonymity.

Cyclone Gaja, which made its landfall on November 16, wreaked havoc in 12 districts of the State. The delta districts were the most affected with normalcy yet to be restored even after nearly a month.

Electricity Department took a significant hit as around 2.17 lakh electric poles were damaged completely.

According to officials, the entire Cauvery delta suffered power cuts but the Tangedco personnel worked without a break to resume power supply, adding electricity has been supplied to 75 per cent of the affected areas. The documentary movie brought out in both in English and Tamil was appreciated by Electricity Minister P Thangamani, and Tangedco chairman Vikram Kapur.

The official said that they have collected six hours of video clips from various sources including media. “With the help of professional editors, the video clip was reduced to 10 minutes. Background music was also given to the documentary to make it live,” he said.

The documentary movie is awaiting the approval of Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami. Once it is approved, the documentary will be out in the public domain.

This is not the first time that such a documentary has been created for EB personnel. A similar video was produced to appreciate the workers who contributed after cyclone Ockhi hit the state.

“The documentary on cyclone Ockhi had inspired the new recruits. Taking a cue from the previous documentary, we have come up with the new one,” said the official.
