    Two women riding pillion killed in separate accidents

    Two women riding pillion on two-wheelers were killed in two different accidents in Parry’s Corner and Manali New Town, on Saturday.

    At Parry’s Corner, an MTC bus rammed a two-wheeler in which a 44-year-old woman was killed. The victim, Saraswathi of Kannagi Nagar, was riding pillion with her son-in-law Roshan. They were returning from Royapuram when the accident took place. 

    When they reached Parry’s Corner, a High Court-bound MTC bus from Tiruvottiyur hit the bike from behind and Saraswathi fell down in the impact. She suffered grievous injuries and died on the spot. Meanwhile, Roshan was admitted to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital for treatment. The Elephant Gate traffic investigation police registered a case and arrested the bus driver Ramachandran.


    In another accident that happened around 10.30 am, a container lorry rammed a two-wheeler on Vichoor Road in which 23-year-old Vijayalakshmi, who was riding pillion, was killed. After she fell off the bike, the lorry ran over her killing her on the spot.


    Vijayalakshmi’s husband Harihara Isakkiyappan (30), a school teacher, who was riding the bike, and their one-year-old child suffered injuries. They were admitted to the Stanley Medical College Hospital. The Madhavaram traffic investigation police registered a case. The police have arrested the driver and seized the lorry.
