Government doctors defer strike, continue boycott of administrative work
The Joint Action Committee of all Government Doctors’ Association (JACGDA) decided on Friday to defer its ongoing protests, following a direction by the Madras High Court to the government to submit the report of a one-man committee that looked into the demands that the doctors had raised.

The standing working committee formed by the doctors had submitted all their demands to the government a few months ago. But the government failed to take any step in this regard, charged Dr S Srinivasan, a member of the association. “The government is delaying the submission of the report by the one-man committee.”
The court directed the committee to submit its report and the association to submit its status by December 10. “The government, however, requested for more time and has been given time till December 17,” Srinivasan added.
Following this, the association has decided to defer the many protests it had planned for this month. “Since the court interfered, we have deferred the newly formulated strikes. However, our non-cooperation movement will continue. Anything pertaining to patient care is deferred but that which is related to the administration and the government will continue,” he added.
The association president Dr K Senthil said, “We will continue to perform surgeries till December 17. We are awaiting a response from the government.”
