    Muthukumaraswamy, ex-Advocate General passes away

    Former Advocate General of Tamil Nadu R Muthukumaraswamy, who had more than four-decades of practice at the Bar, died here on Sunday after a brief illness. He was 70. He is survived by wife, a son and a daughter.

    In 1994, he was appointed as the Special Government pleader of the Madras Court and made the Government pleader the next year. Muthukumaraswamy had served as the Additional AG during the 2001-2006 J Jayalalithaa rule before being elevated as AG by her in 2016.  He had also served as the president of the Madras Bar Association.


    His last rites would be held on Monday. Chief Minister Edapaddi K Palaniswami condoled his death. In his message, he said the state has won several cases mainly due to the effective arguments put forth by him. He said through sheer hard work and effective arguments he has carved a niche for himself in the judiciary.


    His death was a big loss to the judiciary he said and expressed anguish and sorrow over his death. He also offered his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. The legal fraternity mourned his death.
