Walk barefoot on beach, celebrate Disability Day
To celebrate the World Disability Day in an inclusive manner, Nandavanam, a corporate social responsibility initiative, will conduct barefoot beach walk on Tiruvanmiyur beach on December 3. Children numbering about 150, with and without disabilities, are expected to take part in the inclusive walk and beach games to be held during the day.

Talking to DT Next, Dr Veera Panch, the brain behind the event, said that it aims to stress the need for children to walk more for better thinking, digestion and networking. A physician by profession, Dr Veera has also trained in anthroposophy medicine in Switzerland. “Before the child can connect mind and body, we are harassing them to learn academics. From what I have observed, gross motor is pivotal before we start pushing for fine motor skills,” she said.
She pointed out that children have internal and external growth forces till they turn 7. “When these get diverted, the organs don’t form well.”
She added that beach walking also means exposure to ozone. “As a result, they are slowly developing — body is getting toned and they were able to maintain upright position. They became happier, joyful and the cognition improves. Their interaction with peer groups improves and they become loving,” she claimed.
The concept has been in practice at Nandavanam and the same will be exhibited on the beach with students from different schools. They will play with each other and support each other without interference from adults, or any biases and stigma.
The event will be held at 9 am on the Tiruvanmiyur beach.
