The Aminjikarai police have registered a case against Parthipan under three sections of Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act along with sections 323 (causing hurt), 384 (extortion) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC. He is absconding, the police claimed here on Tuesday.

Parthipan’s link with the prostitution racket came to light after a 38-year-old woman sex worker called police alleging that one Viswanathan had snatched her wallet on Sunday. A police team went to the spot and brought both to the Aminjikarai police station and conducted enquiry. However, the man claimed that the woman is a sex worker and he is a customer. He also told the investigators that Parthipan from the CMBT police station had taken all his money after the woman alerted him. After Parthipan left, she started asking for money again. When Viswanathan refused to part with money, she called the police.

When the policemen checked her mobile phone they found that she had earlier called Parthipan. When questioned, she confessed her link with Parthipan and told that she and the policemen had been robbing her customers this way regularly.

The constable reportedly suffered a fracture in the attack. The State Human Rights Commission had taken suo motu cognizance of the incident and asked for a report within four weeks from the Commissioner of Police.
