    A defence statement here said on Monday that Coast Guard Region (East) Commander, Inspector General S Paramesh of Chennai, Australian Consul General Susan Grace of New Delhi, Counsellor Australian Border Force Tim Sheppard and officials from Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, Customs, Coastal Security Group Chennai Police participated in the inaugural session. India and Australia have stepped up mutual co-operation and have now taken it to the next level of military training in addition to economic and political relation.


    The Vessel Search Training by the Mobile Training Team of Australian Border Force is conducting the training for Indian Coast Guard officers and personnel, Custom officers, Coastal Security Group officers of Tamil Nadu Police and Senior Intelligence officers of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, here. This training is a part of the International co-operation between the two countries. “The coming days will see a major transfer of skills, knowledge and equip the officials with the confidence required to undertake a Vessel search. This training programme will bolster both countries’ efforts for realising common national maritime objectives of ensuring safety and security at sea. This joint training course will yield fruitful results,” the statement added.
