Talking to DT Next, Andrew Sesuraj, professor, Department of Social Work, said that time and again we come cross brutal incidents of honour killings and sexual harassment. “When there is a consolidation of communal and caste groups, there should be a consolidation of secular voices.

Through the campaign, we are trying to train the students to question and raise their voices against the existing systems of oppression, casteism and patriarchy,” he said.  He said that human rights as a subject should be deeply embedded in the minds to take strong stand against the combined atrocities.

“We have an International Seminar on Multiculturalism happening at Loyola on November 26 and 27. The campaign coincides with it, apart from being a start to a movement that needs to root out the atrocity till human rights prevail over them,” he added.

The campaign by the 160 plus students of master’s degree in Social Work at Loyola will also offer a prototype for similar campaigns in other educational institutions in the city. “It could be Women’s Christian College or Presidency College that will want to continue the discourse. We want the discussion to continue till there is a change,” he said.
