Railway vigilance officials raid parcel offices at Central
A week after parcel service scam was exposed at the Chennai Central railway station, the Vigilance Department of Southern Railway conducted raids at various parcel offices of the Chennai Central on Friday.

Sources in the department confirmed that a team of vigilance officials raided the parcel offices for over two hours, poring over the records maintained by the offices and checking other details. But, the outcome of the raids is not known so far.
When contacted, Divisional Railway Manager Navin Gulati confirmed that raids were being conducted at the parcel office. “However, I have no further information on the outcome of the raids,” he said.
Last week, SR officials had stumbled upon a scam at the parcel office after a part of the consignment comprising 30 cartons of garments, booked to be sent to Howrah, did not reach the destination. While an invoice was made for 30 cartons, only 19 were sent to Howrah, where it was delivered to the consignee. The fraud came to light only when the supervisor of the parcel section noticed 11 cartons lying on the platform and immediately impounded them for scrutiny.
Five people were suspended for alleged irregularities which was later revoked after those involved were served charge sheets.
