Duo with machete attacks 7-year-old, slashes boy’s face
A bike-borne duo attacked a seven-year-old boy, Chandru, with a machete in Washermanpet on Thursday when the victim was returning home with his ailing uncle from a hospital.
Chennai
The pillion rider swung the machete on the boy when they were in Kothandaraman lane, slashing the right side of his face, very close to the eyes. The incident happened a few metres away from the boy’s house at Sri Rangammal Street.
Since the boy’s uncle was unwell, he couldn’t chase the biker and raised an alarm whereby neighbours rushed to Chandru’s rescue and rushed him to Stanley Hospital. Sabarinathan, one of the neighbours, said initially, doctors initially did not attend to his wounds but later stitched it up. Meanwhile, doctors said Chandru is stable but would be kept under observation for 24 hours.
Chandru is a Class 2 student of a private school, while his father Karthik is a tailor working from home. His mother Jayalakshmi is a home maker and they have an elder daughter, a Class 5 student.
Tondiarpet police have registered a case and have launched a hunt for the bikers. It is not clear if the two were under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The investigation officer told DT Next that the duo were waiting to attack another person over previous enmity, but accidentally slashedthe boy.
