The police arrested Hemanth (18) of Seshalayappan Koil Street of Tondiarpet and Sabesh (23) of Seniyamman Koil Street, both students of a private college, for allegedly injuring K Chandru, a Class 2 student, with a weapon when they had come to Kothandaraman lane in Washermanpet.

The incident happened a few metres away from the boy’s house on Sri Rangammal Street when the boy was walking back home with his uncle Raja from a hospital. The pillion rider swung the machete near the boy, slashing the right side of his face, very close to the eyes. The boy was taken to a private hospital and from there to Stanley Hospital Medical College Hospital for treatment.

“They had come to attack their rival, one Surya, living in the neighbourhood and were under the influence of alcohol. It looks like the two had some issue with Surya after a quarrel two weeks ago. The two were reportedly chasing Surya when he got into a house and closed door from inside. That is when they slashed the boy’s face,” police said.
