Security guard ‘suspect’ in theft at Sasi kin’s house
Gold jewellery weighing about 750 grams (over 93 sovereigns and valued approximately at Rs 23 lakh) seems to have mysteriously disappeared from Sasikala’s kin Ilavarasi’s house on Ramanathan Street in Mahalingapuram.
Chennai
Though police sources confirmed the incident, officers claimed they were yet to receive an official complaint. The incident occurred on November 9, a day after Ilavarsi, who has been lodged in Bengaluru prison in the disproportionate assets case, returned to the prison.
Ilavarasi’s car driver N Murali (38) of Ambattur who returned after dropping Ilavarasi in prison reportedly slept on the terrace. When he woke up the next day, he found the front door open and the locks of the cupboard broken. He informed Prasanna, who works in the office of Vivek Jayraman, Ilavarasi’s son. After Vivek confirmed that 750 grams were burgled, police were notified. Sources added that both Prasanna and Murali were interrogated. While Vivek had accompanied his mother to the prison on November 8, his wife left the house around 3 pm to visit her mother in Anna Nagar.
While Vivek’s wife has not returned to the house, Vivek came to the house on November 13 and went on a trip again. Konak, a security guard from Assam working in the house for six months, who was present when Vivek’s wife left for Anna Nagar on November 8, has been missing since then. Police suspect he used duplicate keys to enter the house and steal the jewellery. Since there are no CCTV cameras in the house, police have collected footage from nearby houses for further clues.
