Titled the ‘Personal Finance Challenge’, the initiative is being taken forward by seven youngsters, who are all part of the women empowerment forum Inner Goddess Academy. Considering all the seven have a substantial number of followers on social media from several walks of life, the idea is not just to spread knowledge on financial literacy but also inspire other girls to apply the ideologies to their personal lifestyle.

Disha Shah, co-founder of the forum, who, at 18, is one of the seven taking up the challenge, says, “One of our platform’s main goals is economic development, so we really wanted to focus on financial well-being and how it can be adapted into our lives. Since there are a lot of technical terms and jargon associated with it, people tend to find the topic dull and thereby ignore it.”

She adds that such problems become solvable when converted into a ‘challenge’, especially one on social media, as is the norm these days. “What would happen when girls who have no idea about this, decide to educate themselves and apply it to their own lives? The seven of us (they call themselves ‘The Rainbow Girls’) picked seven different aspects of finance, such as investment, knowing one’s worth, insurance, budgeting etc and educated ourselves on these topics. Then, we started recording these via videos on Instagram through our handles and interact with our followers about it.”

They have all set themselves personal financial goals they plan to reach by the end of the month, after which their journey will be compiled. “We have a checklist of things we want to achieve. The idea is that women will get a better idea of how to manage their finances watching us figure it out slowly and in a simple manner, instead of getting confused reading about it from various sources,” Disha concludes.
