Gold worth Rs 18 lakh seized at city airport
Customs officers seized gold worth Rs 18 lakh from two passengers who landed on the same flight at Chennai airport on Thursday.

While they were checking the passengers who arrived from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, at around 10.50 pm, the Customs officers at the international airport intercepted Mohamed Hussain (26) from Chennai and found that he had brought LED bulbs and a television. When the bulbs and television were dismantled, gold pieces weighing about 100 grams were found hidden inside them. The officers seized the gold, worth about Rs 3 lakh.Â
When the officers checked Mustafa (29) from Chennai who arrived on the same flight, they found that he was carrying a bunch of new mobile phone batteries with him. When the batteries were checked, gold foils were hidden inside all the batteries. The gold, weighing 500 grams worth Rs 15 lakh, was seized. Both passengers have been detained for further inquiry.
