Come December, children can enlighten themselves of traffic rules in a more practical way as the Greater Chennai Corporation will complete the construction of traffic park for children near Napier Bridge.
Chennai
According to a Corporation official, the construction of the park was being carried out at a cost of Rs 2.06 crore. “The park will have roads, signals and other aspects of roads to give a feel of the real road to kids,” the official added.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that the civic body had entered a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt. Ltd to run the traffic park under corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative. “The Honda team will maintain the park and engage children in various road safety-related activities for three years,” the officials added.
“The construction works are almost over and the traffic park will be ready before the end of this month. However, the inauguration date will be decided later,” another senior official said.
The park that is being built under the Smart City Mission, will be second such facility in Chennai. However, the older traffic park, which was in Vepery, was removed to make way for the office of the police commissioner years ago.
Once the works were completed, the Honda team would provide primary kids activity (age group of 5 to 8 years), kids bike (CRF 50) activity (age group 9 to 12 years), theoretical training (age group of 13 years and above) and Honda riding trainer (age group of 16 years and above).
“Interestingly, Honda riding trainer activity will have a state-of-the-art compact, computer-driven simulation which simulates over 100 types of road, traffic and weather conditions. This will increase risk prediction abilities,” the official said.
Meanwhile, the Chennai Corporation is on the verge of completing the works of the sensory park near Santhome under Smart City Mission, which would have disabled-friendly equipment.
