Train heist: Identification parade of 7 suspects to be held today
Moving a step ahead in the investigation into the daring robbery on a moving train two years ago, the investigating team has decided to hold the identification parade of the seven persons arrested in connection with the case in which Rs.5.8 crore was looted. It would be held at Puzhal jail on Wednesday, CBCID sources said.

Following the procedure, the police have already submitted to the magistrate court in Saidapet the details of evidence and the list of witnesses, whom they suspect might have seen the seven before they committed the crime. Sources said the court has given permission to carry out the identification parade.
CB CID sleuths, who have so far arrested seven persons in connection with the case, are hoping that the witnesses would be able to identify the suspects during the parade on Wednesday. Other than the ones held till now, the team are on the lookout for at least six others, sources said. According to police, the arrested persons belong to the Pardi community from Central India, who were once branded as ‘criminal tribe’ by the British when they ruled the country.
Police believe that the gang drilled a hole on the roof of the money wagon when it was on the move from Salem to Chennai on August 8, 2016, night. From the Rs 342 crore soiled notes that the wagon was carrying, they took away Rs 5.8 crore bundled in 6 lungies as the train was travelling from Chinna Salem to Virudhachalam.
