    5 relieved of mobile phones in a single night

    Unaffected by the efforts of the Police Department to bring the city under the surveillance of CCTV cameras to reduce crimes and help them nab the accused persons, mobile phone snatchers continue their run as five persons were relieved of their mobile phones on Sunday night. Two chain snatching incidents were also reported in the city.

    Sources in the city police said that unidentified persons attacked a pedestrian, Gnanavel, in KK Nagar and robbed his mobile phone on Sunday night. Mobile phone snatching incidents were also reported in Koyambedu, Vadapalani, Sankar Nagar and Valasaravakkam. Cases were registered at the respective police stations and the officers are going through the CCTV footage to find out if the same gang was involved in all the incidents. 

    Meanwhile, Rohini of NSK Nagar in Arumbakkam lost her seven sovereign chain to a bike-borne duo on Sunday night. In a similar incident in Besant Nagar, Vijaya was relieved of her seven sovereign chain when she was going for a walk on Monday.

    Meanwhile, the Valasaravakkam police arrested three absconding mobile phone snatchers and seized five phones and a two-wheeler from them. The accused persons, S Gnanaprakash (19) of Nerkundram, T Naveenkumar (28) and R Kosalram (34) of Maduravoyal were remanded in judicial custody. 

    Cameras worth Rs 6 lakh, cash burgled in Kodambakkam

    An unidentified burglar decamped with digital cameras worth Rs 6 lakh and Rs 65,000 in cash from a locked office premises in Kodambakkam on Sunday night.

    The valuables belong to three youngsters, who work as assistant public relations officers in the film industry. The police said that they had moved to the premises on Third Cross Street in Kodambakkam only a month ago.

    Dharmadorai of Purasawalkam, one of the victims, said that his friend locked the office on Sunday night before going home. However, when he returned on Monday around 9 am, the lock was found broken. Two 5D digital SLR cameras, another DSLR camera, four lenses and cash were stolen. The police said that the burglars had abandoned the cutter used to open the lock and the camera bags at the office. 

    Based on their complaint, the Kodambakkam police have registered a case. They also collected the CCTV footage from the locality, which showed a youth escaping with the bag. Further inquiry is on to identify him. After preliminary inquiry, police said that the burglar must have monitored the house for a while before carrying out the heist.
