Corporation employee held for job fraud
A Greater Chennai Corporation employee has been arrested on charges of cheating many youngsters on the promise of getting them jobs at Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco).

The accused was identified as R Karnan (58) of Royapuram. He was assigned to carry out fumigation work in the 50th sector by the Corporation. He received several lakhs from youngsters in the locality and even conducted fake interviews at a private lodge on the pretext of getting them government jobs, said police.
As he failed to fulfil his promise and also returned the money even after months, one of them approached Royapuram Assistant Commissioner Kannan. During interrogation, Karnan reportedly admitted having received Rs 18.5 lakh from four persons. He was booked under Sections 420 (cheating) and 406 (criminal breach of trust) of the IPC and remanded in judicial custody.
Following his arrest, a few more victims have lodged a complaint against him, said police. Karnan, who is about to retire this year, had reportedly bought properties worth several lakhs in Avadi and Tirumullaivoyal. However, no cash was seized from him.
