Civic body seeks coordination in SWD works
With the northeast monsoon expected to commence any time from now, the Greater Chennai Corporation has urged the public utilities, including Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) and TANGEDCO, to coordinate with it for constructing stormwater drains. The appeal was made by Deputy Commissioner (Works) M Govinda Rao during a meeting held at Ripon Building on Friday.

According to an official who was part of the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner also directed the officials to expedite work on the stormwater drains so as to complete them before the next spell of rains.
“CMWSSB and TANGEDCO have their lines on the streets where we build missing links of stormwater drains. It is important to remove the lines before we dig. So, the Deputy Commissioner asked the Metro Water and EB officials to coordinate with the Corporation,” the official said.
Engineers from the water and power utilities were also part of the meeting.
Meanwhile, Corporation Commissioner D Karthikeyan, Deputy Commissioner Govinda Rao and Regional Deputy Commissioner (Central) Subodh Kumar inspected the ongoing pedestrian plaza works in T Nagar.
