Special Buses functioned to facilitate commuters going out of town to celebrate Deepavali

After Tamil Nadu government announced November 5th a holiday, people have been flocking to various bus terminus and railway stations to celebrate Deepavali with a good 4 days of holidays. To make best use of the vacation, people from outside of Chennai have started their journey homeward from November 2.

Keeping in view the inevitable rush, Transportation Minister MR Vijaybhaskar had earlier announced that special buses and 5 special temporary bus stations would start functioning from November 2.

Accordingly, special buses started from the MGR bus stand, Tambaram Sanatorium, Tambaram Railway Station, Madhavaram New Bus Station Poondhamalli Bus Stand and KK Nagar Bus Stand.

Buses from the Chennai Koyambedu terminus witnessed quite some rush. Around 750 special buses functioned on Friday.

More than 500 police officers were involved in guarding the inside and outside of the bus stands under the leadership of Additional Commissioner of Police Dinakaran.

Similarly, special buses were functioning from Tambaram, and Oorapakkam. Due to the inflow of other vehicles in a large number, traffic jammed in the Koyambedu, Perungulathoor, Oorapaakkam areas which hindered the general public.

Some even took the trains to go to their native places to celebrate Deepavali. From Chennai Egmore, trains towards the Southern Tamil Nadu districts like, Tiruchendur, Kanyakumari, Tuticorin, Ananthapuri, Rameswaram, Nellai, Podhigai, Pandian express trains and other super-fast expresses saw a considerable amount of crowd.

Special trains departed from Chennai Egmore towards the southern districts of Tamil Nadu in the afternoon and night each. Trains towards Bengaluru and other northern states also saw a considerable amount of crowd.

To ensure safe journey for passengers, police officers are commissioned in the Chennai Egmore and the Central stations.
