Disinfect biz houses to prevent dengue: Corporation
The Greater Chennai Corporation has asked the managements of marriage halls, movie halls and other commercial establishments to disinfect their premises periodically to prevent dengue and swine flu.

According to a press statement issued by Chennai Corporation Commissioner D Karthikeyan, the owners of such establishments should buy their own fogging machines and carry out fogging every week to control mosquito breeding in their premises.
“Owners of marriage halls should clean floors, chairs, water taps, bathrooms and kitchen with Lysol, Sodium Hypochlorite liquid or surgical spirit after every use or periodically,” Karthikeyan said.
The commissioner had given the directions in a review meeting regarding controlling dengue, swine flu and rain-related diseases, which was held in Ripon Buildings on Friday. “Commercial establishments should erect awareness banners on dengue and swine flu in their premises and hand over pamphlets to the visitors,” the statement said.
The Greater Chennai Corporation has specifically implored the cinema theatres to screen dengue and swine flu awareness video clips during intervals.
Meanwhile, the Chennai Corporation officials said that the civic body has 1.5 tonnes of nilavembu powder to supply to the public. “Apart from nilavembu powder, 6,000 tamiflu tablets and 900 swine flu vaccines. In addition to asking private commercial establishments to carry out prevention steps, the Corporation has also conducting door-to-door source reduction,” the official said.
The Greater Chennai Corporation has conducted 715 special medical camps and collected Rs 22.50 lakh from the building owners who had failed to keep their premises clean in two months.
