    During the 18th graduation ceremony at Easwari Engineering College, the fresh graduates received a lesson in moral duties by the MP Poonia, the vice-chairman of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi, who was the chief guest at the event.

    Poonia began his speech by congratulating the rank holders and then spoke in length about the importance of education by quoting “wisdom acquisition is a moral duty” and advised the new engineers on the need to broaden the understanding of what it means to be a professional. He also spoke about how engineers should address critical global issues through their work and balance it with their social responsibilities.

    The vice-chairman also advised the graduates to enhance their communication skills and work on developing their leadership skills which is an important asset in the current global scenario.

    The ceremony was also presided over by R Shivakumar, the chairman of SRM Group of Institutions in Ramapuram and Trichy.

    The principal of the college, K Kathiravan, presented the annual report which highlighted the college’s contribution in creating young engineers and technicians.

    The event witnessed 1,066 students receiving their certificates, of which 837 were from undergraduate courses while 229 were from the postgraduate stream. Thirty four students from the undergraduate stream and 28 from post graduate stream won university ranks and awards.

    The engineering graduates also won TCS Best Student award for their outstanding achievement in co-curricular and extracurricular activities while those from Engineering and Management also won awards for paper presentation in research journals.
