In-principle approval not enough to register layouts

In a department circular issued on Friday, he said Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) and Directorate of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) have been issuing in-principle approvals to unapproved plots and layouts under the regularisation scheme. 

Also, directing the sub-registrars not the register properties based on in-principle approvals, he said, “Based on the in-principle approvals, concerned local bodies will issue final approval orders after collecting regularisation and development charges and only then should applications for registration be accepted.”

It is learnt that the Housing and Urban Development secretary S Krishnan has asked the Registration Department to seek final approval order from owners before admitting property registration applications pertaining to unapproved plots.

Meanwhile, the registration department, in a press statement, has asked the property owners not to send applications to the Revenue Department for the change of name in patta.

 “Immediately after the registration of property is done, the Registration Department is sending an application to the Revenue Department for patta changes. The department will also send application numbers to concerned property owners through SMS. Though, many property owners are sending separate applications for patta change,” the press release said.
