Workshop to develop a herb garden
Though we know how good herbs are for one’s health, many have stopped adding it in the food they prepare. The main reason stated is the non-availability of fresh herbs in the market.
Chennai
To tackle this situation, Hariesh Krishnamurthi, a graduate from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University in Coimbatore has collaborated with The Artisanal House in the city for a herb gardening session on
October 27.
“Herbs are not just used to add flavour to the food, but also have various medicinal properties. Many herbs have cancer-fighting antioxidants, valuable nutrients and are fat-free as well.
People are not realising that herbs are easy to cultivate and can grow in a small garden in the backyard, or on pots in the balcony or even in a window box inside a kitchen. At this workshop, we will give a learning experience as to how to grow herbs in the garden, what precautions should be taken and what type of manure is needed,” says Eyrey Mathew, of Artisan House.
Gardening is always a great activity to relax and spend time with the family. “Apart from the usual herb varieties, we will discuss the importance of a few exotic ones, that would interest people,” she adds.
