‘Mawa’ factory unearthed, man arrested
Koyambedu police arrested a 24-year-old man from Maharashtra for allegedly making mawa, a banned tobacco product, and selling it to workers at Koyambedu market. Five kg of mawa tobacco, two bikes, grinders and mixer were seized from the accused, Jithendra Kumar Patel.

When Jithendra was waiting at the market with his two-wheeler, police secured him on suspicion and found mawa hidden in the vehicle.
On interrogation, police found out that he was making mawa at a house in Nerkundram. He was remanded in judicial custody. Similarly, Tiruvottiyur police also arrested S Kumar (49), of the same locality, for secretly selling banned tobacco products.
