2 women held for not returning loan
Police on Tuesday arrested two women in Pallavaram who allegedly cheated another woman after receiving Rs 35 lakh as loan from the latter.
Chennai
Police said Jeeva (32), gave the cash to Nagajothi (34) and Devi (33), both from Pallavaram, on the promise that they would return double the amount in two months. Police said the duo threatened to kill Jeeva after they failed to return the money. Jeeva is the wife of a financier, Ramesh, and runs a chit fund at home.
A year back Nagajothi, who is also running small chit fund at her home, introduced Devi to Jeeva. Devi said she needs Rs 1 lakh to begin a business and would return the money as double within 60 days. Jeeva gave the money and as promised Devi returned Rs 2 lakh on time. After that Devi borrowed some more money and returned it on time as promised.Â
After gaining Jeeva’s trust, Devi and Nagajothi visited her six months ago and told her Devi is investing in new business and she needs Rs 50 lakh and would return it as Rs 1 core within three months. As she didn’t have that much cash to spare, she gave Rs 35 lakh.Â
Police said Devi started to avoid Jeeva after receiving the cash and recently she threatened her when Jeeva demanded the money to be returned.Â
Following that Jeeva filed a complaint with the city police commissioner A K Vishvanathan. The case was taken up by the Pallavaram police and after an investigation, they arrested Devi and Nagajothi. Both were remanded in judicial custody.
