A 34-year-old Congress party cadre was hacked to death by a gang in Ice House on Monday night. The deceased, Abbaz of Zam Bazaar, was the owner of a fast-food outlet on Dr Besant Road in Ice House.

A 34-year-old Congress party cadre was hacked to death by a gang in Ice House on Monday night. The deceased, Abbaz of Zam Bazaar, was the owner of a fast-food outlet on Dr Besant Road in Ice House.
The murder took place at the outlet around 9 pm on Monday, said the police. An eight-member gang reached the shop with weapons on two-wheelers and hacked him. On information, the Ice House police went to spot and sent Abbaz to the Government Royapettah Hospital. However, doctors declared himdead on arrival.
The police suspect that Abbaz could have been murdered over previous enmity as he wasinvolved in a group clash a week ago. Abbaz’s relatives, who gathered at the mortuary on Tuesday, blamed the police for not arresting the men who attacked Abbaz in the clash. The CCTV footage retrieved from the locality showed the suspects walking away in a casual manner, wielding the machetes, after killing Abbaz. The Ice House police registered a case and formed a special team to nab the accused.
