After Limca Records, city-based band aims at Guinness entry

Cmajor, a one-year-old band, which was formed to unite talent that didn’t find takers in other groups, recently made it to the Limca Book of Records for performing gospel music for 17 hours nonstop. Judged as the ‘Longest Band Performance of Gospel Songs’, the band is now aiming at Guinness Book of Records for a bigger feat.

Talking to Dt Next, Esther Samuel, from the group, said that they now aimed at performing for 102 hours at a stretch with 10 bands in one gig. She said, “The last feat was extremely challenging. We had swollen hands and aching throats.

The singer and musicians were rushed for treatment after the performance. In fact, some of them used nebulisers during the programme.” However, all the pain and strain have left them undeterred. “We want to bring together a bigger band for a performance spanning more hours,” she added.

Cmajor comprises two vocalists and eight instrumentalists, including lead guitar, classic guitar, keyboard, percussions and flute. They have members in the age group between 21 years and 30 years — a combination of students and those in service. Esther said, “We formed the group to bring together all the talented musicians who were looking for avenues. They were being rejected, but there was so much talent in them.”

The performance took a lot of synchronisation and back to back rehearsals. “We had to practise for almost 12 hours and 15 hours at a stretch. The earlier record was of 14 hours and we had to plan and rehearse extensively to surpass it,” Esther said.

The performance took place in front of a two-member jury last year and it took a year for the certificate to come through. “Now, we want to set a bigger benchmark, but it would take some time to organise that. We are keen on doing it,” she added.
