13 mobile phone snatchers nabbed in single night

A bike-borne duo, who robbed a college student on Saturday night, were caught within an hour by the police. On Saturday night around 9.30 pm, L Dinesh (19) of Nerkundram, a first year BA student from Pachaiyappa’s College was robbed of his mobile phone at knifepoint. The incident took place when he was on his way to meet his friend at Mettukuppam. He alerted the police and the duo were nabbed at Maduravoyal around 10.30 pm. 

The two men were identified as S Gnanaprakash (20) of Nerkundram and K Manikandan (24) of Maduravoyal. They were escaping after snatching a mobile phone from a panipuri vendor when the police caught them. 

The police arrested five men who are suspected to be mobile snatchers in Tiruverkadu on Saturday night. According to the police, the five men were standing near the Tiruverkadu police station. When they were inquired on suspicion, the police found that the men were on their way after snatching mobile phones in Tiruverkadu and Ayapakkam.  All the five were arrested and three mobile phones were seized from them.

The accused persons were identified as M Nandakumar (23) from Koladi, S Manikandan (18), A Pradeep Raj (20), S Babu (19) and R Gokul Bharath (19) from Thiruverkadu. 

Around 11.30pm on Saturday, four boys were arrested after they tried to snatch mobile phones from two police personnel in Tirumullaivoyal. “While the patrol police were near the Tirumullaivoyal railway station, we intercepted four boys. During the inquiry, one of them tried to escape with the mobile phone of a police officer. The three others also escaped in different direction. The police chased and nabbed them,” said an officer.

The boys were identified as S Vallarasu (18) and three juveniles. The police seized two mobile phones and arrested them.

In yet another operation on Saturday night, the police arrested two men from Tondiarpet and seized six mobile phones from them. The duo, S Surya (20) and R Balaji (20), was involved in several mobile phone snatching in the locality.
