State to host Alcoholic Anonymous national meet
Tamil Nadu will host the national convention of Alcoholic Anonymous, the organisation that provides a space and attention for alcohol addicts to undergo group therapies and counselling, for the first ever time. The two-day convention, the sixth edition of the event, will begin on Friday at Mamallapuram.

The event will have seminars and workshops on alcoholism and its various facets, and expects the participation of more than 800 people.Â
The inaugural event will be presided over by Justice N Kirubakaran of the Madras High Court, Sundarama Deekshitar, vedic scholar, and PM Althafi, coordinator, Egathva Muslim Jamaath, said a statement from the organisation.
The three-day event will also have a special session with the Bishop J George Stephen, CSI-Diocese of Madras, while the valedictory function will be attended by retired senior police officer-turned-MLA R Nataraj; Shanthi Ranganathan who established TT Ranganathan Clinical Research Foundation that runs a hospital that specialises in drug and alcohol addictions; and Justice P N Prakash.
The event will be held in Sea Breeze Hotel AA is a coming together of men and women who share their experience with alcohol and discuss them in groups in meetings to help the others to cope with the condition.
