Jewels worth Rs 20 lakh go missing from businessman’s house
Gold and diamond jewels worth nearly Rs 20 lakh have mysteriously disappeared from a businessman’s house in Neelankarai. Police are interrogating two women, who have been working in the house as maids, in connection with the case.

According to police, Kamalesh and his family members are residents of Sandeep Avenue in Neelankarai. When they checked for the ornaments kept in the cupboard before leaving to an event on Wednesday, they found gold and diamond jewels worth Rs 20 lakh missing. They immediately lodged a complaint at the Neelankarai police station.
As they last saw the jewels six months ago, they could not tell when the jewels were stolen. A case has been registered and further investigation is on.
Two houses in city burgled
Police said that 25 sovereigns and a pair of diamond earrings and Rs 10,000 in cash were burgled from a house in Teynampet. The incident took place when Santhanam, a retired All India Radio employee, who lives with his family on Eldams Road went to Mysuru on a trip. When he returned last night, he found the house broken open and valuables stolen. Based on his complaint, the Teynampet police have registered a case and investigating.
In another incident, 13 sovereigns were burgled from a software engineer’s house in Choolaimedu on Wednesday. Balakumaran and his wife Janani, a school teacher, went to work when unidentified burglars broke open their house at Nehru Nagar and escaped with valuables. Further investigation is on.
