    Raids again in Puzhal prison, 29 TVs seized

    Eighteen cots, 29 television sets, 28 FM radio sets are among some of the items that were seized from inmates in Puzhal prison I late on Thursday evening after four-hour long raids.

    The raids at the convicts prison was carried out by a team led by prison DIG Murugesan and new superintendent Senthil Kumar. Thursday’s raid started at 6 pm and ended at 10 pm. 

    Sources said the seized cots were originally meant for the hospital in the premises and were given to the inmates who were ready to rent them out. 

    Other items seized include four pressure cookers, a big vessel used to make biryani, 200 kg Basmati rice, 75 kg maida flour, 60 litres of cooking oil, 50 kg of dhal item and other ingredients for cooking. It may recalled that last week, prison authorities had seized more than 20 TVs, cell phones and rice from the high security block after searches were carried out following photographs being published in newspapers showing inmates enjoying a lavish life style inside the prison.
